‘HIT AND RUN’ CAR DRIVER

SENSATION AT AUCKLAND

DISAPPEARED AFTER CRASHES.

POLICE SEARCHING FOR MOTORIST.

PEDESTRIAN SUFFERS INJURY.

By Telegraph—Press Association.

Auckland, Sept. 26.

A sensational motor smash occurred at Mount Eden early this morning. A twoseater car driven by a man who was wearing evening clothes overturned and ran backwards, then crashed into the side of a house, smashing the windows of one room. The driver was slightly injured. Later he disappeared and he is being sought by the police.

It is believed that the same car was involved in another accident a few minutes earlier, when a man was knocked down and injured. The driver, although warned to stop, drove on. A constable who heard the crash of the car rushed to a taxi, but valuable time was lost because the taxi-driver was sound asleep. The constable then found Robert Done, aged 30, lying stretched on the roadway, having been knocked from his cycle. Done’s injuries are not serious.
