MOKAU ACTIVITIES

ATHLETIC CLUB MEETING. RESULTS OF FIRST CYCLE RACE. — ■ A meeting of the new Tainui Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club was held at Mokau on Saturday afternoon, when there was a fair attendance of members. . . j It was decided to hold a junior and senior cycle race on alternative Saturdays and a run for harriers once a fortnight. A gold medal has been donated for the rider obtaining the highest number of points for fastest time for the season ending in March, 1934. It was decided to hold a run for harriers over a course of one mile and three-quarters finishing at Mokau next Saturday. The Club's membership is increasing. • The course for the cycle race on Saturday was from Mokau to the top of Sole’s Hill and back, a distance of four miles. All competitors in both races were off the one mark. The senior race was won by J. Hammond (Mahokatino), nis time being 114 m. B. Bryant (Awakino) was second and D. Montgomerie (Awakino) third. The junior race, for riders under sixteen years, was won by D. Opie (Mokau) in 15m., with N. Bishop (Awakino) second. PhysicalkCulture Display.

A physical culture display in aid of funds for the Mokau school was given by a number of young ladies and the schoolgirls of the Mokau school at the hall on Saturday. The display consisted of "folk dancing and rhythmic exercises and was appreciated by a large attendance. Miss I. McCrae, Mokau, instructed those taking part in the' entertainment and was largely responsible for the arrangements.that contributed toward the success of the function.

After the display supper was provided. A dance was held till midnight, the music being supplied by Mrs. N. Taylor and Miss I. Hansen. Miss B. Sampson and Mr. L. Bryant played extras. Between dances vocal items were given by Mrs. N. Taylor, Miss Q. Rikihana and Mr. D. Rikihana, and a tap dance by Miss Uma Hakraia, Messrs N. Taylor and A. Erricksen were masters of ceremonies. Some people at Mokau had to earl water for daily use during the past fortnight. The dry weather ended with heavy rain on Saturday night. Miss K. Huntly, who has been the guest of Mrs. S. Ericksen, has returned to Hamilton.
