FOURTH MOTUROA OIL WELL

DRILLING COMMENCED YESTERDAY Drilling at Moturoa Oilfields Ltd-’s No. 4 well was commenced at New Plymouth yesterday after nearly four months of preparatory work. The drilling of the first 50 feet is expected to be slow owing to sand, and it is anticipated that it will be several days before much progress is made. For a start the well will be drilled to take 15-inch casing. At approximately 7 600 feet the hole will be cemented for 10-inch casing. This will be continued until the conditions encountered make an 8-inch casing necessary, probably at 2000 feet. These changes in the diameter of the casing will be necessary to shut-off any water seepage or gas. It is intended to erect two large tanks, for the collection of debris in drilling the hole. Thus contamination of the beach will be avoided. A pipe-line to carry any oil produced will be built to the storage tanks at No. 2 well.
