BAND CONTEST REFUSED

PALMERSTON REJECTS TERMS.

ITS ULTIMATUM ACCEPTED.

Palmerston N., Sept. 25.

Advice has been received by the committee arranging the holding of the Dominion bands contest at Palmerston North in February that the New Zealand Brass Bands Association has accepted the ultimatum on the matter of profit-sharing.’ This means that no contest will be held in Pahnerston North. The committee states that the original conditions were that the association receive 10 per cent, of the profits up.to £5O. Later the association sought £5O plus 10 per cent. The committee flatly refused to conduct the contest unless the original terms were adhered to. The association met at Wellington on Saturday, when the decision was reached.

WELLINGTON POSSIBLE VENUE.

STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT.

Wellington, Last Night.

The president of the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association, Mr. H. D. Bennett, stated to-day that the next contest was now likely to take place at Wellington in February. An application had been received from Wanganui, but he thought the venue would be Wellington.
