BETTER WINTER WEATHER

GOOD SEASON JUST CONCLUDED. NEW PLYMOUTH AUGUST RECORD. A'winter with some of the best weather for several years has theoretically concluded with the coming of September. The winter months at New Plymouth began with an unusually dry June. That made a heavy rainfall in July, which gave the ground a thorough soaking, much more bearable. The rather strong south-easterlies which prevailed throughout the winter soon dried the ground. In August rather more’ rain fell than was needed, but the temperatures were warm and the grass began, to grow. From the point of view of the farmer and gardener the weather for the three months was satisfactory and stock came through the winter in good condition t without too heavy a call being made on artificial feed The rainfall records were:— 1931 1932 1933

August was unusually warm, although the nights were rather cold. The mean temperature was the highest since 1922, when the present observer began to keep the records.
