FARMERS’ COMPETITIONS

ACTIVITY IN NORTH TARANAKI. A meeting of the committee controlling the farmers’ competitions in North Taranaki was held at New Plymouth yester? day morning, there being present Messrs J. M. Smith (chairman), H. C. Sampson and R.'B. Sutton. . The chairman reported that it had been decided not to hold a central dance at New Plymouth this season for the presentation of championship cups, andthat the trophies were being presented at district gatherings. The action of the chairman and secretary in purchasing miniature trophies for championship winners was confirmed. The chairman intimated that Mr. 'G. H. Bell, Oakura, had won outright the cup for concrete pit silage. The chairman, who acted as judge of the competitions, referred to the improvement which had taken place, ticularly during the past three years, in the quality of the fodder that was being made throughout the district. One could hardly realise such a general all round improvement would have been possible. There was no doubt the competitions were having the desired effect. It was an extremely difficult task to-day for on* judge. Really it was work for three, but whether this would be possible or not he could not say. > The secretary (Mr. D. le C. Morgan) reported there was a credit balance of £9, with a number of amounts still receivable, so that after meeting all expenses there should be a small balance in hand at the close of the financial year.
