“THREE INDEPENDENT THIEVES.”
SERIOUS STATE OF AFFAIRS. •
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 17.
His Honour Mr. Justice Reed sentenced three prisoners in the Supreme Court today who until recently were employed in responsible positions in the Phoenix Assurance Company. They were Arthur Philip Pool, aged 37, John William Darroch, aged 23, Harold Percy Campbell, aged 22, and they got two years’ reformative detention, twelve months’ reformative detention, and two years’. Borstal respectively for the theft of money belonging to the company. Tire sums were: Pool, £363 16s lOd; Darroch, £5B 15s 3d; Campbell, £585.
His Honour said that a most extraordinary position was revealed. Three persons had been deliberately robbing the company for some time. As far as he could see from the statements there was no collusion between them. They were simply three independent thieves stealing from the company. It was a most extraordinary state of affairs and very serious.
