CHOICE YEARLING HEIFERS
MR. F. V. GREEN’S HERD. Two very choice yearling heifers from noted show ring and butter-fat strains are being submitted at the National Female Sale on Monday on behalf of Mr. F. V. Green, Brixton, who has certainly started out on right lines. Dainty specimens of the beautiful Jersey, the pair make an instantaneous appeal, and it was no surprise to learn that one of the pair, Mountain Meadow's Carillon, caught the judge’s eye for third place in a very strong class of yearlings at the last New Plymouth show. Both are bred on butter-fat lines, the sire in each case being by Woodlands Marvel Victor, who as the prefix denotes was bred by Mr. H. C. Sampson, coming from one of his best producing families and going back on the sire’s side to the imported Clarion, and on the dam’s side to Bright Sultan, the sire of the world’s champion Jersey, Woodland’s Felicie. The dam of Carillon is Mountain Meadows Bell, which produced 4161 b fat in 303 days despite a great setback owing to a dry season. The dam of Mountain Meadow s Sylvie is Mountain Meadow’s Saucy, who produced 3741 b fat in 300 days. That Mr. Green has plenty of butter-fat in his herd. is.shown by the fact, that he took. 14,0681 b of fat off his property -of 76 acres, though it is situated in the area that had a very dry autumn.;
