TWO CHOICE BULLS.

THE PUKEMOANA OFFERING. Though Monday’s sale is essentially a National Jersey female show and sale, by request six specially selected pedigree Jersey bulls eminently suitable for herd sires will be submitted at Monday’s sale. Two of them have been selected from the Pukemoana Stud, Bell Block, and they are particularly choice, with great type and butter-fat backing behind them. Starting about 12 years ago, Mr. T. H. Western took as his foundation cow Hua Brook Modesty, with a record of 338 lb fat in 300 days as a junior two-year-old. Mr. Western has always kept _in view pedigree with a happy combination of butter-fat and type. He has ever been ready to pay a price to achieve his ideals, as is evidenced by his purchase of Hua Brook Welcome at 510 guineas, a record price, and' of those two full sisters to the champion cow Holly Oak Annie, namely Holly Oak Annetta, for which he paid 410 guineas, and Holly Oak Sylvia, for which he paid 210 guineas. One of the bulls to be submitted on Monday is Pukemoana Golden Prince, who was first in a strong class of two-year-olds at the last New. Plymouth show. The young bull’s dam, . Woodlands Melba, is a great producing daughter of Mercedes Golden Laddie, who is side also of the dam of the world’s champion Jersey Woodland’s Felicie. Woodlands Melba’s dam come from the same family as Fox’s Patch H.. and . Sultan’s Daisy, great champions. Woodland’s Melba has been sent to Vagabond of Oaklands (imp.) this year. The second offering, Pukemoana . Valley Royalist, is by the imported Vagabond of Oaklands by Pukemoana Violet, who is now under test and shaping well. She is by the imported bull Stella s Silver Boy, and on her dam’s side goes back to the foundation cow Hua Brook Modesty. Mr. Western always has a team under semi-official test. He has bad great success as a breeder, having bred Covely’s Handsome Prince, the champion bull at last year’s Hawera show, as well as War’s Handsome Katie, another Victor’s Handsome Prince young cow which Mr. Watkins considers the best young cow in his stud. Both the bulls to be submitted are splendid to handle.
