SCHOOL ANNUAL PICNIC. The Bell Block school annual picnic was held on Wednesday at the Meeting of the Waters, where there was a good attendance of parents, friends, pupils and ex-pupils, all of whom voted the day a very happy one. Arrangements were in the hands of the school committee with Mr. R. L. Parkin as chairman, and the teachers, Mr. Gorringe and Miss Poletti. Parents and friends provided transport to the picnic for a number of the children. Swimming was enjoyed by many, while cricket was also played by the boys. Races were run during the day, the winners being: Boys 8 years and under, Maurice Morgan 1, Leo Johns 2; girls 8 years and under, Margaret Sanders 1, Maisie Haskell 2, Thelma Jeffery 3; boys 10 years and under, Tom Jeffery 1, Noel Wey 2, Don Puke 3; girls 10 years and under, Betty Macdonald 1, Mabel Walbran 2, Peggy Rundle 3; boys 12 years and under, Billy Rona 1, Rex Wey 2, Ken Morgan 3; girls 12 years and under, Joyce Hammond 1, Joyce Parkin 2, Marjorie Sole 3; boys 14 years and under, Gordon Bishop 1, Ernest Richards 2, Bert Hopson 3; girls 14 years and under, Betty Hoskin 1, Joyce Sole 2, Jean Hammond 3; boys’ race, Alonzo Julian 1, Billy Broughton 2; boys over ten years, Jim Jeffery 1, Keith Hammond 2; girls over ten years, Judy Jeffery 1, Joyce Sole 2; girls under ten years, Thelma Jeffery 1, Dorothy Sole 2; old girls’ race, Gladys Sole 1, Gwen Hopson 2, Nancy Parkin 3; old boys’ race, Mervyn Jury 1, Ray Hoskin 2, Ronald Rundle 3. . Before leaving each child received sweets and fruit.

St. Luke’s Ladies’ Guild held a meeting on Tuesday at the residence of Mrs. J. H. Street, who presided over an attendance of 14. Several items of business were discussed, and it was also made known that Mr. R. Day, New Plymouth, had offered to organise a concert with dance to follow to be held at Bell Block. The concert will be to raise’ funds for the church committee which is finding it very difficult to make ends meet. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Mrs. Street and .Mrs. Bracegirdle. Miss Nancy'Grover has returned home from a fortnight’s holiday with Mrs. J. H. Street.
