FUNDS FROM ART UNION. EAST COMMITTEE’S POSITION. “Naturally, we are pleased to feel we are in a position to start the New Year with our liabilities paid off,” stated Mr. J. C. Robins, chairman of the East Committee of the Egmont National Park Board, to a Daily News reporter yesterday, in reference to the statement that the committee would participate in the profits of “My Lucky Year” art union to the extent of £l5OO. “It is important to keep the men working on the road and bring it to a successful completion, so as to ensure a continuity of revenue,” Mr. Robins added. Questioned as to what purposes the money would be devoted to, Mr. Robins said that until all accounts had been paid and it was known how much they had in hand, he could not say definitely. Unemployed men had been working extra days on the plateau road, the cost of which had to be borne by the committee, and the constructional scheme had yet to be completed, necessitating improvement of the camping facilities, alterations to the sanitary conveniences at the mountain house, and the completion of the plateau road. The question of buying a motor truck for running repair work to the road was also to be considered. The hope was expressed by Mr. Robins that before the cold weather set in it would be possible to enlarge the space on the plateau at present cleared as a parking ground for cars, so that winter sports could be held on the plateau. Unfortunately the recent spell of bad weather had put a stop to work above the mountain house. The men had been engaged on the road below the house, but would return to the plateau as soon as conditions permitted. ’ ,
