Miss Kathleen Standish, who has been the guest of Mrs. J. H. Fake, has returned to Hastings.

Mrs. Ayson, Rarotonga, who has been on a visit to Eltham, has returned to Wellington. MIDHIRST ITEMS. The Midhirst W.D.F.U. held its monthly meeting on .Wednesday. Mrs. W. Walker, vice-president, in the absence of the president, Mrs. Laird, presided over a fair attendance. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames A. Graham and D. Urving. Mrs. M. Wolffe, Stratford, gave a demonstration on the making of slippers. Mr. and Mrs. W. Tucker and daughter, North Auckland, have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. Anderson. Mr. J. Howard and Misses Nancy and Noel Howard are visiting relatives at Wellington. A fairly large number of parents and children journeyed to New Plymouth on Thursday for the school’s annual picnic excursion. Mrs. C. Symonds is staying with friends at Inglewood. PATEA ITEMS. Miss J. Armstrong, who is the guest of Mrs. C. Masters, will leave on Monday for a holiday at Wanganui prior to returning to Palmerston North. Mrs. O. Gibson, Tauranga, visited Mrs. W. F. Shield on Sunday last. Mrs. J. A. Haswell has returned from a holiday at Auckland. Miss N. Kelly, matron at the Patea hospital, will return to-day from her annual leave. Miss Leila Adams has returned from a short visit to Masterton. Miss Edna Adams has returned from Wanganui. Nurse Forlong is visiting Wellington, where she will be the guest of Miss Harvey. Mrs. F. S. McKenna and family have returned to their home after a holiday at the Patea beach. Mrs. A. Maxwell and son have returned to Patea. from a holiday at Wellington. At a social afternoon held at Fallowfield yesterday Mesdames W. T. Simmons, L. Honeyfield, T. E. Roberts, L. Hamilton, S. Mcßae and W. H. Walton, Misses P. Simmons, Ensor, N. Gibson, Marian Hamerton and H. Simmons were the guests of Mrs, W. F. Shield. Mrs. Smith, Ngaio, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. Davidson, Essex Street. Mrs. F. Jenkins, who recently underwent an operation at the Patea hospital, hopes to be discharged within a few days. Miss Danes, organising secretary of the Bible Class Union, is staying at Patea for the week-end. She will be the guest of Mrs. W. H, Walton at the vicarage. OHURA ITEMS. Mr. and Mrs. McHarrie and Miss Aileen McHarrie have returned home .after spending a few weeks’ holiday at the Mokau beach. Miss Jean Turnbull has returned home after a trip to the South Island. Miss Wilkinson, who has been staying with Mrs. Craven, returned home last Friday. Mrs. Allen entertained at cards on Thursday evening. WELLINGTON . PIONEER OF 90. An aunt of Mr. H. G. Carman, Eltham, Mrs. E. T. Brown, Lower Hutt, who is one of the oldest living persons born in Wellington, will celebrate her 90th birthday to-morrow. Mrs. Brown was bom at Wellington in 1843, her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. David Kinniburgh, haying arrived in New Zealand in 1842 in the ship George Fife.. On the same ship was an infant, who is to-day Archbishop Redwood. The Kinniburgh family lived successively at Thomdon, Manners Street and Cuba Street. Mrs. Brown is the eldest of eight daughters, four of whom are still living. Her sister, Mrs. Carman, Lower Hutt, celebrated her 87th birthday last Sunday. There were three brothers, the surviving one being Mr. James Kinniburgh, Auckland. Mrs. Brown has one son, two grandchildren, and two great-grand-children, and her sister, Mrs. Carman, with whom she lives, has four sons, two daughters, 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children. Mrs. Carman’s sons are Messrs. H. G. Carman, Eltham, W. J. Carman and E. P. Carman, Wellington, and A. C. Carman, Invercargill. The daughters are Mrs. C. E. Crawford and Miss Carman, Lower Hutt. Mrs. Kinniburgh was over 90 years of age when she died in 1905.
