Mr., Mrs. and Miss B. Bodie are on a holiday visit to Masterton. Mrs. H. E. Nowell, Ngaere, has left on a motor trip to Tauranga. Miss N. Hamilton is paying a visit to friends at Hawera.

Mrs. Spence was hostess to some friends on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. H. Okey is staying at Auckland. Mrs. G. T, Beale gave a very enjoyable afternoon on Wednesday. Those present were Mesdames Thorp, Rutherfurd, Steven, G. Hall, Furrie, Haseldene,-Rich-ards, Roberton and, Jeffries. Mrs. Uniacke was hostess at an enjoyable afternoon on Thursday. Among those present were Mesdames Budge, Aitken (Auckland), Bennet (Wellington), D. J. Malone, G. Hall, Jeffries and Pitt. Miss Kathleen Keenan, Auckland, and Miss Beverley Clews are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. Ford, Regan Street. Mrs. J. McDowell was hostess to some friends at bridge on Wednesday night Mrs. Newell was hostess at afternoon tea to some friends on Wednesday. Those present were Mesdames W. Hall, Wynyard, W. Coleman, J. B. Richards, Misses Aitken (Auckland), Bennet (Wellington), Riddle (Sydney), M. Porrit and Joan Coleman. X■ ■ J GIFT AFTERNOON. An enjoyable time was spent at the residence of Mrs. C. S. Kelly on Wednesday, when a gift afternoon was tendered to Miss Patti Childs, whose marriage is soon to take place. Apologies for absence were received from Miss E. Osborne and Miss D. Harris, who were unable to be present. The time was pleasantly spent with music and elocutionary items. Mrs. W. Harris, Mrs. A. Sayers and Miss Hope Grant sang songs, Mrs. C. Penn gave a pianoforte solo and Miss Pat Childs elocution. During the afternoon the guest of honour was presented with a large number of gifts by Mrs. KellyMiss Childs returned thanks, and Mrs. J. H. Childs thanked the hostess for the afternoon. • Mrs. George Dick was the accompanists. Among those present were Mesdames Childs, Sedden, Penn, Healey, Spierman, Harper, Morgan, Sweiters, Ward, Dick, Sayers, Lash and Harris, Misses Hope Grant, L. Penn and P. Childs. . . Mrs. Austin Yarndley is holidaying in the south for a few weeks. Mrs. Owen Davies has returned to Stratford after spending a few months at New Plymouth.SWIMMING CARNIVAL DANCE. The dance in the Medina to conclude the Stratford swimming carnival on Thursday night was'a great success, a large number of visitors being present. Music was played by the Ambassadors dance band and Mr. Murray Thompson was master of ceremonies. Some of those present were Mesdanjes A. Robson and R. Marsh, Misses Hope, Grant, Jean Mcßea, D. C. and J. Alleman (Inglewood), Lindop, R. Christopher (New Plymouth), I. Sweiters, T. Guthrie, Tui Mcßea, Mann (Mahoe), R. Childs, 8., Villers, Connie Marsh, McCluggage, Grace Hale, O. Cannon, D. Bird, Chong, B. H. Henderson (New Plymouth), Ena Marsh, J. Joyes, M. Wilson, M. Sanderson, Nelson, Belle McKay, J. Elgar, W. Rawles, D. Gordon, D. Thompson, M. Kivell, E. Reeves, B. Moody, M. Carter (Eltham), Tilfen (Hawera), P. McCready, M. Young and M. Gray. OPUNAKE ITEMS. Mrs. E. A. Clegg, Opunake, is an inmate of Noradene private hospital, New Plymouth, ’Mrs. S. Campbell was farewelled on Tuesday by members of the Opunake Presbyterian Ladies’- Guild. Those present were Mesdames Campbell, Clare, Byars, Clough, Fraser, Tosland, Lambie, Malcolm, Johnston, Clouston and R. Campbell, Misses Mcßae, Quickman and Markham. A competition was won by Mrs. Tosland and the carpet golf was won by Miss Quickman. Mrs. Clough, on behalf of the guild, expressed regret at Mrs. Campbell’s departure and the loss of a very valuable member, and presented her with a parting gift. During the afternoon musical items were rendered and afternoon tea was served. Mrs. Elliot Clegg was taken to a private hospital at New Plymouth on Thursday night. NORMANBY ITEMS. Mrs. H. Smith has returned from three weeks’ holiday at Nelson. Miss Campbell, Dimedin, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. D. M. Cowie, Grey Street. Miss Hilda Franklin returned during the week from a holiday at New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Jackson have returned home after spending a motoring tour of various parts of the North Island, Miss-Joan Cowie is on a holiday visit to Wellington. „ Mrs. Ridd and Miss Loma Ridd, New Plymouth, are on a short visit to Mrs. W. G. Gane. Mr. and Mrs. Cleaver returned after spending several weeks motoring in the Rotorua and Gisborne districts. On Wednesday evening a number of young people paid a surprise visit to Mrs. Bevan, Ketemarae Road, on the occasion of her birthday. _
