CONCERT AND CHRISTMAS TREE. An .interesting programme and a perfect night combined to draw a large crowd of parents, children and friends to the Korito. school last Thursday night, the occasion being the school concert and Christmas tree. The acting of the children was . excellent, considering the fact that this was the first concert to be staged, by the present pupils and teacher. Much credit is due to Miss C. Lewis, head teacher, who has just recently come to the school, and must liave worked very hard to make the evening the success it was.-

The programme submitted was: Songs, “The Arkansan Traveller” and “The Dream Man,” the pupils; recitations, “Six Little Mice,” Standards 1 and 2; pianoforte solo, “The Runnaway Horses,” Betty Weston; song, “The Fairy Glade,” Gordon Snell, Joyce Herbert, Lorna Ashman and Oma Peters, who sang as an encore, “Spring”; dialogue, “Friday Afternoons’ Compositions,” Lorna Ashman (school teacher), and Monica Miller, Oma Peters, Joyce Herbert, Doris Weston and Gordon Snell,' Ray Woodward, Monte Woodward and John Keast; “The Canoe Dance,” Standards 1 to 6 (effectively sung in Maori and encored); folk dancing, juniors; recitations, “Nursery Rhymes,” the primers; recitations with actions, “The. Tale of the Trunk,” Hugh Peters, Gordon Snell and Monte and Wilfred Woodward; songs, “This how we beat the Drum” and “Nursery Rhymes,” the pupils. The programme concluded with, “Good Night Ladies,” and the National Anthem.

Much excitement prevailed when Santa Claus arrived and from a very attractive Christmas tree, decorated with tinsel, candles 1 and paper, presented e f ach child with a gift and bags -of sweets. The parents also received presents made by the children, and Miss Lewis received a gift from the children. Supper, with soft drinks for the children, was served by a committee of ladies. _ ; The following attendance certificates were presented: Joyce Herber (special certificate for seven years’ unbroken at-, tendance), Jean Hine, Lorna Ashman, Myra Smith, Doris Weston, Iris Herbert and Gordon Snell. Cups were presented to Doris Weston and Iris. Herbert, who tied for first place in the calf-rear-ing competitions. The children were congratulated op their very fine performance." The judges had remarked that this particular group was the best they had judged. The calves were all very even," the difference in marks between the highest and lowest ca» being only six. At the recent field day judging at Waiwaikaiho Doris Weston secured second place for condition for North Taranaki and Loma Ashman gained first place in the pedigree' Aryshire class for condition. Three pupils sat for the proficiency examination, Gordon Snell gaining his certificate and Loma Ashman competency. Mis Lewis, is spending the -holidays at Wanganui. Mr. L. Boven, Wellington is visiting his parents, Junction Road. Miss M., Pryor, who has. been staying with Mrs. A. Miller, has returned to Inglewood.
