WHANGAMOMONA CONCERT
EFFICIENCY OF TEACHING STAFF. The Whangamomona school concert was held in the Oddfellows’ hall on Thursday. The .stage was bedecked with ferns and greenery, backed by a large Union Jack. The concert, which was followed by a dance, was well attended and distinctly successful. The chairman of the school committee (Mr. L. Dean) paid. r a tribute. to the efficiency of the teaching-staff; every., child had advanced by a" class. - The proficiency results showed five, passes and one competency for six candidates—a fine reflection on the ability of the head teacher (Mr. J. McAllister). The following programme was given: Recitation, “The Ferryman,” Grace Newbold and Dick Dean; chorus, “All Through the Night,” children; recitation, “The Pet Lamb,” Dick Dean; song, “There’s a Land,” Mr. O’Dea; recitation, “My Creed,” Jack Brereton; song and chorus, “Deep in the Forest,” Peggy Cunningham; violin solo, Mr. McAllister; recitation, “Not Understood,” Mr. L. Dean; chorus, “Pack up your Troubles”; “Goodnight Ladies,” the children. The children were presented with prize by the chairman, each child receiving a book.’. Supper was provided for the children, the majority of whom were in fancy dress. They presented a pretty sight as. they marched through the hall but greater applause greeted two tiny to t£ Kevi Voltz -and Dawn DresSer, who looked a picture as they timidly ventured across the ■ floor, dressed perfectly as bride and bridegroom. After supper the children had a half-hour of fun dancing, with adults assisting, ana the chairman’s appeal to give the children a , good time was s. iritedly carried out. Dancing was then enjoyed by the large J adult'' Attendance, music being provided by Mr.’ P- Fougerc’s amplifier. ■’
