At the* conclusion of *a meeting of' _the Freezing Workers’ Union yesterday ; morning, the vice-president, _ Mr. W. Gray, said there was no material change towards a settlement of the dispute, and the men were just as firm in resisting the employers’ proposals and conditions. The president, Mr. T.' B. Ewens, and Mr. C.-’Topp, together.' with delegates from the. Pa tea and Feilding unions, returned'from Auckland last night and reported- that they had addressed meetings at< ; H6rotui and Auckland, in the latter place about 500 being present. They left again early yesterday morning for Wellington; where Mr.-Ewens is attending a meeting of the National -Organisation of the Freezing Workers Federation. Mr. Topp and other .delegates are going on to the Smith Island to address meetings regarding the disputc.- —** It meat works managementl is installing the rail system of 'slaughtering, which is expected to be .in* operation this week. . A team of ’cricketers from the old union freezing •; workers are to play a match with the Pateamenrat Patea tomorrow. ■' ■ ■■■ , ./. ■ The monthly meeting of the committee of the Waitara Seaside and Beachylmprovement took ’place - at Waitara' bn'- Monday -night,- when’ there • were present • Messrs. T. Taylor senr. (chairman), Mesdames F. Locke, J. Hughson, J. Canton, L. Clare and W. Trim, Messrs., L.: Clare, W. Nosworthy, A. Chadwick, R. Grant, E. Lash and J. . Hughson (secretary). Mr, Taylor reported that the band rotunda had been dismantled and reerected nearer -the 'kiosk. A roof had z been built and now all that was required was a covering of iron and a coat of paint. The stand was a decided improvement, and when properly finished, painted and roofed would be an asset to the society. k A vote of thanks was passed to the following helpers for their work on the rotunda: Messrs. Zinsli senior and junior, L. Clare, Tuffam and Taylor. It was decided to procure the iron and roofing materials needed for the band stand. The secretary read over tenders for the making 6f .two tennis courts. The meeting discussed them, and the matter was held over for a future meeting. The chairman said the campers were starting to' arrive, and numbers had signified their .-intention of .camping on the beach during the holidays.
