Frank Nitti was killed when the police raided gang headquarters in the city ■ I office building. Seven gangsters present lined ,up to the wall meekly enough until the officers noticed Nitti slip a small paper into his mouth and chew violently. A policeman leaped to snatch the paper. Nitti drew a revolver and ten shots were ’ exchanged before Nitti fell dead. The mysterious paper contained a list in code of names of suspected persons marked down for death in the beer wars.
