VICTIM OF THE EARTHQUAKE
IMPERIAL PENSIONER’S DEATH. RETURN OF WAR DISABILITIES By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. At the inquest on Thomas Barbour, aged .48 years, whose body was found on his mother-in-law’s farm on Saturday with a gunshot wound in the forehead, the coroner, Mr. P. H. Harper, returned a verdict that death was due to a gunshot wound self-inflicted while deceased was in a state of mental depression. It was stated in evidence that Barbour was an Imperial war pensioner and in addition to losing an arm suffered from shell shock. Before coming to Gisborne he was in the Hawke’s Bay earthquake and was then removed to hospital. His medical attendant there had reported that his nerves had suffered severely . and his war disabilities returned as a result of th# earthquake.
