ENGLISH CRICKET TEAM

THIRTEEN SELECTION'S MADE. : By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. i London, July 28. It is officially announced that Robins, Brown,. Wyatt, Pataudi, Allen, Larwood and Voce have been invited to go to Australia, making a total of 13. Three others will be announced later. ■The thirteen now selected are:— D. R. Jardine (Middlesex, captain). . H. Sutcliffe (Yorkshire). W. R. Hammond (Gloucestershire). K. S. Duleepsinhji (Sussex). L. Ames (Kent). G. Duckworth (Lancashire). R. W., V. Robins (Middlesex). F. R. Brown ('Cambridge). R. E. S. Wyatt (Warwickshire). Nawab of Pataudi (Oxford). G. O. Allen (Middlesex). > H. Larwood (Nottinghamshire), W. Voce (Nottinghamshire). The capacity of the side might be summarised as powerful batting, fielding and wicket-keeping, ■ with somewhat problematical but potentially good bowling, and sound, orthodox if uninspiring leadership. Pataudi, Wyatt, Allen, Voce, Brown, and Robins are unknown to Australian grounds. Brown, aged 21, is strongly built, cheerful, red-haired and temperamentally suitable for big cricket. There could never be much doubt about Pataudi’s selection on the grounds of sheer merit, but the sentimental objection to two Indians in the team was overridden by the slender Nawab’s great batting form. The choice of Allen was very wise, especially in view of his hostile bowling, good batting and fielding, also Larwood’s liability to break down. There are already seven amateurs, and there may still be ENGLISH COUNTY MATCHES. H. PARKS NOT OUT AT 172. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 29.
