The monthly meeting of the Ratapiko Women’s Division was held at Jk. Long’s residence on Thursday an the largest meeting yet held y - branch. Mesdamcs Fetch, nresL Martin acted as hostesses. The piedent (Mrs. Long) welcomed Mis. Mais i and a party from the Inglewood branch who came to Ratapiko to give » demon stration on the making of raffia cake baskets. The visitors supplied members with patterns with which to make toy animals. There was a large entry in the sugar-bag competition, and tne judges (Mesdames Breddon and. Swanson) placed Mrs. Longs exhibit first, Mrs. T. Eva’s second and Mrs. 1 elf er s third. Some of the articles which had been made from sugar bags were a hearth rug, travelling cushion, curtains, shopping bag, sun helmet, slip mat, cushion cover and overalls. During the week-end a team of Inglewood footballers visited Ratapiko and played a match- with the local team. Mr Frank Julian was referee. Although the Inglewood team was much heavier the Ratapiko boys put up a great.fight and managed to run out a draw. The Ratapiko team was R. Therkleson, R. loveRidge, R. Stephens, H. Martin, W. ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS.

Owing to counter attractions the entertainment billed for the Stratford town hall to-night has been postponed until Wednesday night.

To-night at Ngaere hall the Eltham Legion of Frontiersmen will hold an oldtime dance. There will be a free bus from Eltham and a. very big attendance is expected.

To-night at Pukengahu hall the local bachelors and spinsters will hold a ball. There wil be free buses from Eltham and Stratford' and plenty of novelties to entertain. The local residents are catering for a big gathering.

The picture, “The Locked Door,” to be shown at the Eltham Theatre tonight, is a fast-moving drama of modern people with a vivid background of action. The story concerns the exciting adventures of a young woman who is innocently caught in the meshes of a rotter, marries another, and is . forced into a compromising situation with the man to save the honour of one she loved. Barbara Stanwyck plays the part of the young woman, and Rod La Rocque that of her former lover.. Included in the cast are Betty Bronson, William Boyd and Zasu Pitts.
