CENTRAL SCHOOL GROUNDS
£ 9 O COLLECTED AT GALA DAY.
EFFORT BY THE COMMITTEE.
About £9O for the improvement of the grounds was raised on Saturday at a gala conducted at the Central school. New Plymouth, under the auspices of the school committee and the home and school association. Favoured by fine weather, the organisers were rewarded by a large attendance and good business was done st the stalls in the classrooms. In the nuadrangle during afternoon and eyenL there were games and competitions to° make the time pass merrily. The donkeys lent by the Fltzroy .Seaside Park Society proved a popular attraction among the children. \ Competitions were won as follow:— Toilet set, Mrs. Hodder; rabbit, Miss Ritchie; throw-over, Miss Morris; cushion No. 1, B. McDonald; cushion No. 2, Mrs. -Throssel; cushion No. .3, Miss Hodges; baby’s frock, Mrs. F. Nicholson; breakfast cloth, Mrs. DPrestney; set of d’oyleys, Mrs. Duxfield; figure, G. E. Avery; Airs. Crann; teddy bear, E. Reid; kitchen tools, Verna Looney; electric iron, Mrs. A. Courtenay; elephant No. 1, Miss Ritchie; elephant No. 2, Mrs. Lightband; hat box, Miss Nellie Kendrick; cake, Mrs. Dunn. Stall-holders and others who assisted were: Sewing stall, Mesdames S. Bennett (convener), H. Jordan, C. Waters and Rankhurst; sweets stall, Mrs. Bridger (convener), Mesdames Larkin,' Duxfield, Whitham, Misses Papps, O’Sullivan, Jury, Hodges, Ross, Phillips, Neville and Taylor, assisted by a number of pupils; Christmas trees and toys, Miss Henderson (convener), Mesdames potter, Hodder, Misses Smith, Hogg and Hurle; cake stall, Mesdames Huggett (convener), Evans, King, Cathey, Emeny, Throssel, Hall, Edgecombe; produce stall, Messrs. R, C. Adla.m, Bruce and Whiteside, assisted by senior boys- flower stall, Misses Kendrick and Warner; Central school stall, Miss Ritchie, assisted by senior girls; ice cream and soft drinks, Messrs. Potter, Short and Broad; games, Mr. W. G. Holder; broadcasting, Messrs. G. Ovenden and E. Waters; coin gome, Mr. I. Fagan. Afternoon tea was served, in the gymnasium under the supervision of Mesdames Clarke and Feakins. The kitchen recently added to the gymnasium by the Home and School Association was greatly appreciated by those in charge of the tea arrangements.
