CRICKET CLUB MEETINGS

WESTERN PARK (NEW PLYMOUTH) SUBSCRIPTIONS CUT 10 PER CENT. The annual meeting of the Western Park Cricket Club was held in New Plymouth last night, Mr. B. Twomey presiding over a fair attendance. The tenth annual report disclosed that the financial position of the club, although. not as good as laet year, was still healthy, there being a balance of £6 15s Id in hand, representing a surplus of receipts over expenditure. Subscriptions had been difficult to collect, and £6 was still owing on that account. The club had entered three teams in the competition. The senior B team had been successful, again being run-ners-up. The junior team had had a fairly successful season, winning five and losing nine matches. The juniors had been handicapped because of difficulty in fielding a full team. The need in connection with junior cricket was a team manager —an old member who would take an interest in junior players. The senior team had experienced another lean season, having been defeated in every match. While that position was regrettable, all games had been enjoyed, and the team spirit had prevailed. Competition games had concluded early and several non-competition games had been played. Two had been interclub games between the senior and senior B teams, each side securing a win. The club had also fielded teams against s.s. Northumberland and sn. Westmoreland, and a match had been played against Whangamomona. The latter game had. been most enjoyable. The. club’s first president, Mr. Fred Bayley, had died during the past season. Mr. Bayley had been club patron at the time of his death, and had held that office for a number of years. Mr. Alex Sinclair, a vice-president of the club, had been transferred to the Hawke’s Bay district, and Mr. J. Herbert, a member of the senior eleven, had returned to Hawera during the winter, Mr. A. Jackson had been transferred to Hawera. Congratulations were extended to Mr. G. V. Haughton, who had been selected to play against Victoria College, Waikato and South Taranaki, leading the teams in those matches. Officers elected were: President, Mr. H. J. Abram; vice-presidents, Messrs. V. Elliott, E. L. Mason, P. Carroll, T. V. Mackay, B. Twomey and Dr, A. R. Andrew; hon. secretary, Mr. S. O. Jones; club captain, Mr. E. L. Mason; committee, Messrs. Beard, Huxford, Innes, Quickfall and Ford; delegates to association, Messrs. Beard, Jones and Carroll; hon, auditor, Mr. E. L. Humphries. Subscriptions were reduced by 10 per cent. It was decided that members should not be qualified to play who failed to pay half the amount due on October 15, and the balance on January 15. It was decided that the general committee should grade the players at the commencement of the season, but that the captains of the teams should thereafter form the selection committee, together with the club captain, ex officio. It was made a recommendation to the management committee that the junior and senior B t ams amalgamate to form two senior B teams, with the object of enabling younger players to gain experience of higher grade cricket. Nine new members were elected. NEW PLYMOUTH CRICKET CLUB. REVIEW OF PAST SEASON. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Cricket Club was held last night, when Mr. P. Sheppard presided over an attendance o- 15 members. The annual report stated that the financial -position was satisfactory, showing a credit balance of £2 Ils lid and a°surplus of £ll 14s 8d of. the assets over liabilities. The competition organised by Mr. F. Ferry had been very successful, showin; a net profit of £lO 7s 6d. The club was indebted to amember of the club who had advanced a sum of money to liquidate certain debts to the North Taranaki Association for the 1929 and 1930 season. The total sum had practically been repaid. The club met with fair success in the field. In the senior competition the club was runner-up to Old Boys, to whom congratulations were extended. The senior B team, though not so successful in its competition, had had a far better season than that of 19291930. The junior team, under the very capable control of Mr. F. Ferry, again won the junior championship. The following members represented Taranaki during-the season: O. M. Nasmith, W. M. Groombridge and R. Ninkie. It was reported with regret that practices during the season were not as well attended as in previous seasons, and it was hoped that members would endeavour to take this branch of the game a little more seriously. The club recorded its appreciation for assistance giv i by the North Taranaki Umpires’ Association. At the last annual meeting the club presented a framed photograph of the senior team (winners of the 1929-30 championship) to Dr. E. A. Walker. The club wished to extend thanks to its patron for his continued interest and support. The chairman remarked on the improved financial position of the club. With the exception of practices the club members worked well together. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ' Officers were elected as follow: Patron, Dr. E. A. Walker; president, Mr, P. E. Stainton; nine vio»-presidents; club captain, Mr. P. Sheppard; practice captain, Mr. A. Clarke; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Groombridge; committee, Messrs. F. Ferry, W. Groombridge junr., R.
