Mrs. D. Syme has returned from a visit to Auckland. The many friends of Miss J. Hawkcn will be pleased to hear that she is convalescent after her serious illness. Lam'bie has returned to Mangatoki after a long visit to Waikato and Auckland. © e ® « An enjoyable party was given on Monday when Mrs. Brown was hostess in honour of her daughter’s engagement and the celebration of her birthday. There were about 60 guests present. A delightful programme had been arranged for the amusement of the guests, including games, dancing, singing, recitation and cards. Musical items were given by Mr. Morris (Eltham), Mr. Tom Guy (Matapu) and Mr. Con. Brown. Extra dances were played for by Miss Nancy Brown, Miss Peggy O’Connor and Miss Emma Southard, accompanied by Mr. George (Manaia), mandoline, and Mrs. Brown, Manaia. Songs were sung by Mrs. Meleesy (accompanied by Miss N. Brown), Mr. Tom Guy, Miss E. Southard and Miss Kathleen Brown (Wanganui). Mr. Saunders proposed the health of Miss Francie Brown and Mr. T. Lavery.
