OUTBREAK OF DIPHTHERIA

Christchurch, July 23.

Alarm is being felt, particularly in the Waltham and Sydenham Districts, over an outbreak of diphtheria, which has affected attendances at the schools. No deaths have occurred. Twelve cases have been reported in Waltham in the past three months and the disease is not yet coped with. A number of adults are also affected.

As the result of the Health Department’s investigation four carriers, one child and three adults, have been located and are now isolated.

The department says that the outbreak is mild. .
