TIMBER FOR FRUIT CASES

ORDERS FOR NEW ZEALAND.

WORK FOR DOMINION MILLS

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Wellington, July 23.

The New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation has placed an order for 650,000 fruit-boxes for Nelson of pinus insignia sides and ends and white pine tope and bottoms, and 150,000 for the Hastings district, besides other orders. It is pointed out by the manager, Mr. H. Napier, that the local manufacturer * has been given a chance, despite the fact that imported cases are cheaper, purely to ease unemployment. Commenting on Mr. ‘P. A. de la Perrelle’s statement that the drop in timber output was due to the failure of fruitgrowers to place orders for boxes in New Zealand, Mr. Napier says the Minister’s information was out of date.
