RELIEF FOR INDIGENT NURSES
DOMINION APPEAL FOR FUNDS. An appeal is being made throughout New Zealaud best Wednesday for funds to augment the Nurses’ Memorial Fund. This fund was established When the Marquette was torpedoed during the Great War, for the use of indigent nltrses, the feeling at that time being that the most pleasing form of memorial to those who Were lost would be oiie to benefit their fellow nurses. Many nurses through ill-health, or, perhaps, having to help keep an aged parent, are unable 10 save for their old age. There is a central committee, established in Dunedin, where all the funds are seht, and very careful investigation is made in every case. <This is the first occasion on Which Uio nurses of New Zealand have appealed to the public, but owing to the Government withdrawing the subsidy of 10s. for every £1 collected for the fund, this appeal has been felt necessary. A number of Taranaki nurses have decided to give cash donations to the fund, but in order to increase the total contribution from Taranaki a pound cake has been donated as a prize for a guessing competition. Arrangements have been made for the cake to be exhibited ib. the shop window of Messrs. Thi'iS. Avery' and Soils, Devon Street, N6w Plymouth.
