HAWERA HOME DESTROYED
BLAZE EARLY THIS MORNING. PRACTICALLY NOTHING SAVED. Fire totally destroyed Mrs. F. Aim’s house, near the Hawera racecourse, in the early hours of this morning. Practically nothing was saved. Mrs. Aim, a widow, lived in the house with her family. About 12.30 a.m. one of the sons was awakened by the noise and smoke of the fire in the back of the building. He aroused the family and by the time they had made their excape with what clothing they could snatch up the house was ablaze. A slight north-west wind rolled dense clouds of smoke and sparks over the house of Mr. S. Poulsen next door and it was feared that this also Mould be burned, but bucket? of watei mcic thrown over it and it suffered little damage. The fire was beyond the borough and the Hawera brigade was not present. It is understood the house and contents were insured.
