EXTRAORDINARY ATTEMPT
MAN SUSPECTED OF MURDER POLICE DEFIED ON A LAKE FOUR PERSONS WOUNDED By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 11.50 p.m. London, April 29. Suspected of murdering a woman, John Harrity, a farmer of Rathmullin, County Donegal, put up an extraordinary fight against arrest. Upon receiving warning of an attempt to arrest him he seized a gun and ammunition and rushed to Loughswilly, where he clambered into a boat. Four members of the Civil Guards manned another boat and v/eht in pursuit. Harrity picked off and wounded each of the police with his rifle. Soldiers then manned four boats and fired at the fugitive while converging upon him. Harrity only surrendered, slightly wounded, when the boat sank under him.
