COMMITTEES HAMPERED
AUCKLAND MEMBERS RESIGN
UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF TASK.
BOARD’S DIFFICULTY RECOGNISED.
OBJECTION TO EXISTING SYSTEM.
, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Feb. 25.
Contending that under the existing conditions the work of the local unemployment committees was hampered by lack of finance and the opportunity to exhibit initiative, the Auckland unemployment committee (of which MajorGeneral Sir George Richardson is chairman) has resigned. Sir George said the committee had even been told that the members must pay out of their own pockets the cost of advertising. It realised the difficulty of the Unemployment Board’s task and wished to help it, but the members were unable to do so as a committee under such conditions.
