REPAIRS TO HAURAKI

VESSEL FURTHER DELAYED.

ALL CARGO TO BE UNLOADED.

The repairing of the damage to the oil tanks on tSe Union Company’s vessel Hauraki did not progress yesterday as fast as was anticipated, with the re6ult that the vessel was not able to leave late in the afternoon for Auckland as was intended, fhe collision mat which was constructed by carpenters and the Harbour Board engineering staff of canvas, wood and mattresses, was affixed to the ships side over No. 1 tank by wire ropes which were passed underneath and bound round the vessel. The mat was then riveted on to the ship’s plates, ihe work was superintended by Mr. A A. M. Taylor, tlm Union Company S ehip architect, from Wellington. Minor repairs to Noe. 2 and 5 tanks were temporarily effected with wooden wedges. r It is hoped to dispatch the Hauraki for Auckland to-day at reduced speed.
