GERMAN ‘STARVATION BILL’
PLAN AFFECTS NEW ZEALAND
DUTY VARIES WITH MARKET
PROTEST BY COMMUNISTS
By Telegraph—Press Assn.— Copyright Berlin, Feb. 24.
Herr Schiele, Minister of Agriculture, has introduced in the Reichstag a Bill specially interesting to Australia and New Zealand. It proposes a sliding scale of Customs duties on butter, fruits, timber and meat, variable as the market situation demands. He said that the development of reparations problems might necessitate swift measures to make Germany independent of foreign food supplies. Communists noisily protested against “the starvation Bill.” .Two had to be expelled before order was restored.
