THE SICKNESS AT PUKEMIRO
RECOVERY OF PATIENTS RAPID. CAUSE OF TROUBLE INDEFINITE. By Telegraph.—Pres* Association. , Auckland, Last Night. The' epidemic of sickness at Piikemiro appears to be in hand. There were one or two more mild cases to-day, blit the recovery of the patients has been rapid and the majority are now convalescent. Precautions are being taken to prevent a spread. At least 140 people have been treated by doctors. No pronouncement can be made yet regarding the cause of the trouble. The medical superintendent of the Waikato Hospital, where the worst cases were sept, states the malady is some form of dysentery, but its exact natute is not yet ascertained. The effects of the illness are so violent that it brings about exhaustion, which may have caused the deaths.
