TEAM TO GO TO ENGLAND
SUFFICIENT SUPPORT ASSURED. ■■ ' DECISION OF CRICKET COUNCIL. By Telegraph-“PreBS Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The New Zealand cricket team to tour England will definitely sail from Wellington on Saturday, March 28. The chairman of New Zealand Cricket, Ltd., Mr. A. T. Donnelly, said at a meeting of the company to-night that 6041 shares, sufficient to ensure the team’s departure, had now been subscribed. At a meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council held subsequently it was stated the manager, captain and vice-captain would be announced within a few, days. Shares have been subscribed as follows: —Auckland 1422, Hawke’s Bay 100, Waiapu 5, Taranaki 10, Wellington 526, Canterbury 3349, Timaru 50, Otago 30, New Zealand Cricket Council (including 150 from Marylebone Cricket Club) 350, Dr. R. J. Pope (Sydney) 100. Mr. Donnelly said the directors hoped to get subscriptions for more shares to make the total 8000. It was also hoped .the art union results would be Satisfactory and would protect shareholders of the coif pany. An invitation Was received from Wellington for the team to play a Wellington team on March 26, three days before the departure of the steamer. It was decided to leave the question of playing a match to the chairman for consultation with the Wellington association.
