WAITARA EVENING SPORTS
RACING PARTICULARLY GOOD. The Waitara Cycle and Athletic Club’s weekly evening sports were _ held on Thursday evening in rather inclement weather which spoiled the attendance of t;he public. There were good fields in all events, and the racing was particularly good with the exception of the two-mile cycle, in which J. Cooney, a local rider, cleared out from the bunch and won easily. The performance of A. Cole in the three flat events was particularly good. He is very fit and should win races this season. . Following are the results: — 75 yards. —A. Cole (SJyds.) 1, C. Dowsett (25), G. Fowler (25), R. Grant (35), Teriti (50). Half-mile cycle.—First heat: J. Cooney (60) 1, N. H. Bellringer (50) 2, K. Mehrtens (25) 3; time, Imin. 9 3-ssec.; seven started. Second heat: R. Coleman (25) 1, G. Topless (80) 2, M. Wiley (85) 3; time, Imin. lOsec.; five started. Final:
