STATE ADVANCES MYSTERY
FALSE DECLARATION MADE.
AUCKLAND JUDGE PUZZLED.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Auckland, Feb. 13.
When fining Samuel Thomas Baker, a carpenter, for making a false declaration to the State Advances Office, Mr. Justice Herdman said that he had difficulty in making up his mind about the case. He was doubtful who was responsible for Baker’s conduct. “There is some kind of mystery about these declarations to the State Advances Department. A solicitor is employed to make the declarations, but what happens to the money I do not know.” Baker was fined £25.
