BAYACRE WINS NICELY

RIDGEMOUiND RUNS GOOD SECOND.

For a change, Bayacre behaved himself reasonably well at the 'barrier, and won the Flying Handicap from Ridgemount in a good finish, the New Plymouth sprinter failing in the , last. 50 yards to win from end to end. The dividend payers had the race to themselves, th© others being well beaten. Green Linnet gave a lot of trouble and was started a couple of lengths behind the field. Bayacre ( £27BJ) was a hot favourite over Gold Dawn (£I7BJ). When the tapes were released Ridgemount jumped aw'ay from Gold-Dawn, and down the back the order was Ridgemount, Bayacre, Tenterden,-Callapat, Malayan ftnd Gold Dawn, with Melissa last. Bayacre joined th© leader oh th© bend and the pair were together into the straight well of Tenterden, Oallapat and Green Linnet. Ridgemoqnt and. Bayacre fought out the issue in the run home, •but the favourite had the better of matters over the last 50 yards, Ridgemount succumbing to a half-length defeat. - Tenterden was three-quarters of i length away, and there was daylight to Malayan, Gold Dawn, Greeu Linnet, Melissa and Chief Link.

.Bayacre has been beaten in several starts recently by his bad behaviour at the barrier, but he gave very little trouble on this occasion.. He was not ridden righ,t out at the finish and won With something in hand. Ridgemqunt continues his consistent run and went \vell. Tenterden will improve. Gold Dawn and Melissa struck trouble in the first furlong, and that extinguished their chances. Melissa should do,'better to-morrow.
