BREAKING-UP FUNCTIONS.

WAITEIKA SCHOOL CONCERT.

The annual • Christmas tree function was held on Thursday ifight in the school room At Clement’s Mill, Waiteika.Road. Crowds of children, from babies, to .sen.ibr.'.piipils, .assembled'with their parents and friends, and when Mather Christmas cbuld be seen approaching on.his sledge their; excitement knew The venerable and popular visitor, when the applause .. subsided, ' distributed gifts from his sack to the 67 .eager .children. Followed more presents from a gailybedecked Christmas tree,.then a, happy little speech from the children’s favour-, ite. ' . . z Upon Father Christmas’ departure games and fblk daheqs occupied ah. hour, to be followed by. a pleasing little programme organised by thp children themselves. Two little tots,. Hebe Thompson and Enid 'Pritchard,-, werfe loudly, applauded after siriging .“Twinkle,- 'Twinkle Little Star/’ and astonishing the audience a iittib -later' Byi their- dexterous dancing in a Highland reel. Recitations by Grace ■Graham and Hebe Thompson were well received, ■ and ■ hbrigt were • provided by Doris'. Dobbs,. .Grace Machray' .and Ilene •Thompson. Hodges, the secretary, Mr. Douglas Clement,'presented proficiency certificates to the two successful pupils, Jfeta ,Toki and Grace Graham, and presented the following special przes:—Best sewing (presented by Mrs. C. Thompson), Agnes . West; best primer sewing (presented: By Mrs.-A. West), Nellie McKen.ziejJbest attendance, (presented by Mr. W;- : Hodges), girls, Beth Reeve; general •excellence (presented by Mr. 0. Clement), Dpn Mdchray. /Agnes West-paid tribute, to the work •dope by the teacher, Mr. E, G, Ami th, and the sewipg--migtfess, Miss -E.- .Cox. She .presented on behalf of the pupils a gift to each.; ■ ■'■ ’ . Supper w-d? provided by the ladies and dancing for adults was carried on. ■ During the proceedings fresh excite-ment-whs rife -when Mr. Tom Quin entered bearing a great case bf apples. “From‘Father Christmas,” he said.*-BREAK-UP PARTY AT TE KIRL i The proceeds of the Te KJri school concert- Were utilised to provide. a Christinas party for the children of the district. The school children had the school room decorated, in readiness for the festivities. In the middle Was a large Christmas tree laden, witli presents for ill'children. Even the babies of Te KiH Afire included in this seasonal-treat. An industrious band of ladies prepared a ffeapt both bountiful and splendid. After games on the laWn the children assembled in the room arid sat around thb tree at tables laden with dainties. Gaily-coloured paper hats worn by all added, to the festril appeirhnee. Just as afternoon tea was finished Santa Claus arrived and was warmly Welcomed by the. children.- After a short chat Father Christmas proceeded to distrbute the presents from the - tree. Air Father Christinas left, the school fillied round arid gave him a, rousing send-off. Altogether the party was. a great success.
