The Soviet authorities have suspended the Vladivostock branch of the Japanese, Bank of Korea and arrested the manager and others of the staff. The action follows a month’s closest scrutiny of the branch’s books. It is understood the Soviet alleges the bank’s operation interfered with the maintenance of the official artificial rouble exchange rate. The Japanese ambassador at Moscow has been instructed to inform the Soviet authorities that the closing of the bank is considered an unfriendly act and to request the withdrawal of the order.
The Soviet Embassy at Tokio has stated the closing of the bank is i. 4 accordance with the fixed policy of the Central Government to' abolish the only bourgeois bank in Soviet territory.
