MOUNTING PUBLIC EXPENDITURE ADVERTISING ON RAILWAYS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. . Dunedin, Last Night,-y Figures which, he said, showed how public expenditure was mouhting were quoted by Air. A. H, Allon a meeting of the council of the Chamber of' Commerce to-night with reference to advertising on railway property. _ He stated that prior to 1914 advertising had been let by tender and. he presumed had been a fair source of revenue. Just after the outbreak of war, when it liad become apparent that the Government must take all the revenue it could get, it had taken over the advertising itself. The following figures showed what the result had been; — 1924. —Revenue, £24,073; expenditure, £1d,637; profit, £7434. 1926.—Revenue, £45,454; expenditure. £31,238; profit, ' £14,216. 1929.—Revenue, £53,938; expenditure, £50,719; profit, £3264. 1930—Revenue, £53,532; expenditure, £53,151; profit, ’£3Bl. “I leave you to imagine,” Mr. Allen added, “what the result will be in 1931.”
