DIFFICULTIES OF FARMERS
PROTEST AGAINST RAIL RATES. CHEESE EXPORT. CONTROVERSY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The Otago branch of the New'Zealand Farmers’ Union has despatched the following telegram to the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch: The Otago provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union emphatically protests against the proposed increases in railage on fertilisers and lime, feeling that-such increases will affeet production and further hit the primary producer and increase unemployment. The executive is of the opinion that steps should be taken to ensure that farmers who receive free railage on lime sened their products by rail. A further telegram to the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. A. J. Murdoch, earnestly requests the Government to prohibit" the export of standardised cheese as the union considers that the standardised product is detrimental to the prestige of New Zealand cheese generally and is damaging the market for full crca mcheese.
