PICKETS ARRESTED
DISORDER IN CALCUTTA. i * ( Calcutta, October 30. An impression is growing] that many workless young Indians, unable to obtain food or- shelter, become Congress pickets in order to get comforts in prison. , : A typical example of this was given to-day, when the heart of Calcutta ? business quarter, Clive Street, was thrown into ■■ confusion and disorder as the result of the activities of six young Congress pickets. Business was at its height when, clad in spotless khaddar, with Gandhi caps and Congress badges, and carrying t - tional flags, they approached the Customs House, and barricaded t|ie m .in entrance, shouting, “Bande mataram! and “Don’t buy British goods!” Simultaneously other p' xets held up traffic, and implored or cautioned occupants of vehicles not to trade with the British. The arrival of the police soon ended these proceedings. Five were arrested, and the others scurried off. Some authorities believe that if there were more whipping sentences for pickets this form of civil disobedience would feoon disappear* .
