SHIPPING DAIRY PRODUCE

.AMOUNTS FROM TARANAKI. LARGE CHEESE EXPORTATION. The allotments for the shipment of dairy produce from New ■ Zealand to British, ports during the next two months allow for over 21 per cent of the cheese exported from the Dominion being sent by direct, loading from the port of New. Plymouth. During the same period, from mid-October to mid-Decem-ber, 9.25 per cent of the butter shipped from the Dominion will be sent through New Plymouth direct. Eight shipments of dairy produce altogether will be taken from New Plymouth. A feature of the Tayanaki exports is that all the North Taranaki produce is being loaded on the, vessels at New Plymouth. A portion of these butter and cheese allotments has already been taken from the port by overseas vessels which, however, have not yet completed loading at other New Zealand ports. During the two months mentioned 847,722 boxes y>f butter will be exported from the Dominion, 77,403 boxes being sent from New Plymouth; for the same period a grand total of 273,000 crates of cheese will be exported, and of these no less than 57,506 crates will be shipped to the British markets direct from New Plymouth. . . ■

During the same period Patea will export, by transhipment to Wellington, five shipments of butter totalling 14,800 boxes, and 11 shipments of cheese totalling 64,905 crates. This means that while Patea’s butter exports are comparatively insignificant, being only 1.06 per cent, of the Dominion total, her cheese exports are 24 per cent., or nearly onequarter, of the Dominion’s total shipments.

Collectively, the two Taranaki ports will export nearly 11 per cent of New Zealand’s butter shipments during the two months mentioned, and no less than 45, per cent, of the cheese shipments. Altogether 13 shipments/of dairy produce will be sent from New Zealand. Two include produce for the west coast of England ports. The following table gives details of the butter and cheese exports from New Zealand and from the port of New Plymouth during the two months mentioned. In each instance butter allotments are mentioned before cheese allotments:—
