NAVAL HONOURS AT FUNERAL
SHIPMATE OF CAPTAIN SCOTT. MEMBER OF POLAR EXPEDITIONS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The remains of the late Mr. Harry MxNcish, who served 23 years in -the Royal Navy and was a shipmate of Captain Scott and a companion of Sir Ernestx Shackleton in two South Polar expeditions, will not go down to the grave “unhonoured and unsung.” He will be accorded a naval funeral, and the coffin will be borne on a gun car--riage to the jjemetery to-morrow morning. The tiring party and pall-bearers will be supplied by H.M.S. Dunedin and will render naval honours to the deceased sailor and explorer. As soon as the proposal for a naval funeral was brought to the notice of the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Minister of Defence, both expressed thmiselves in sympathy. The Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle gave directions to arrange for a private grave in Karori cemetery, and the following order was issued from Defence headquarters yesterday: The order of the cortege will be as follows—Firing party in command of officer from Dunedin, gun carriage and teain with pall-bearers, four on each side, naval mourning detachment, public men, representatives of departments and others who may attend. The Navy League will be represented by Mr. R. Darroch (secretary for New Zealand) and other members.
