SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) An ordinary meeting of the Whangamomona School Committee was held on Wednesday evening, Messrs. Dean, Fletcher, Partridge and Robinson being present. The secretary read a letter from Mr. Whiting (chairman) tendering his resignation of membership. On Mr. Partridge’s motion Mr. L, Dean was elected chairman. Correspondence w«s received from the Education Board confirming the appointment of Mr. J. McAlister as headmaster at Whangamomona. Mr. McAlister would assume control on September 8. A letter was received from Mies Simpson (late head teacher) expressing her thanks to the committee for the assistance given her during her term at Whangamomona. In connection with the post • office ‘‘thrift in schools” campaign Mr. L. Robinson (postmaster) reported having addressed the scholars, with the result that 15 children had opened savings, bank accounts. It was decided to complete the fencing required at the school according to the original, tender. It was resolved that Mr. Whiting’s resignation be accepted with regret and recognition of his valuable services be placed on record. Members spoke highly of the unostentatious work Mr. Whiting had done at the school during his term of membership. General satisfaction was expressed at the management of the school during the period when Mr. Johnston (relieving head teacher) had been in control, and it was decided to convey to Mr. Johnston the committee’s appreciation of the progress made in the school during his term. PERSONAL. Mrs. Dean and family are spending a holiday at Otorohonga. Mrs, A. Coxhead has returned from the South Island. Mrs. Lloyd Robinson and daughters have returned from a visit to Patea. Mrs. G. Partridge and family / are spending a few weeks in Auckland.
