INSUFFICIENCY OF SPACE

WINTER SHOW-REQUIREMENTS

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE

To offer suggestions for improving theshow and to receive the reports of chairmen of sections, members of the ■general committee of the Stratford Winter Show Association met last night, the president, Mr. A. J. Davey, presiding over a good attendance. Reviewing the show generally thechairman said the root section had been crowded as the result of the large number of entries, but had there been more room the display would have been the best in Taranaki. The industrial section had been one of the finest at any Stratford show, though the limited space available had tended to cramp the display. In fact insufficiency of space had affected the show considerably in all departments and ways and means for securing more accommodation for the next show would have to be gone into. Much credit for the success obtained Was due to the volunteer workers whose assistance had enabled the expenditure on labour to be greatly reduced. As chairman of the root section Mr. M. Gernhoefer said he had received congratulations from all quarters, on the fine display. Ho suggested that an effort should be made to increase the entries in the district courts section. He had been told that the settlers of Matapu would probably be agreeable to co-operate in arranging an -entry for next vear.

Mr. R. Wellington, Wharehuia, stated that his district would enter a court for the next show.

A number of details regarding the poultry section needed attention, said Mr. C. Murray, but apart from the shortage of space the section had been up to the usual standard. That a system of one-way traffic should be introduced was advocated by Mr, A. E. Moss. Much congestion would be obviated, he said, by keeping the Stream of sightseers continually moving in one direction.

The general impression that he had received from the majority of spectators was that the show gave great satisfaction to the general public, said Mr. W. Hardy-Jones. To give farmers more time to arrange for their district courts Mr. Al. Steiner urged that the canvassing for entries bo carried out earlier than had been done in the past. The secretary, Mr. F. T. Hale, reported that though the overdraft with which the year had been commenced had been wiped out there was still a credit in hand of over £lOO. PERSONAL ITEMS. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. W. H. Masters was passed at a meeting of the general committee of the Winter Show Association last night.
