CONFIRMATION AT ST. MARY’S
VISIT OF ACTING PRIMATE. The Bishop of Wellington, the Right Rev. T. H. Spratt, D.D., acting Primate, held a confirmation at St. Mary’s, New Plymouth, last evening, when 78 boys, of whom 73 were from the High School, received the Laying-on-of-hands. ’J There was a very large congregation. Mr. R. N. Renaud played the organ (and the singing was led by the High School cho ; r reinforced by members of■ !the staff and visiting clergy. The candidates were presented by Canon E. H. Strpng. The Bishop based his remarks on! th® character of Nehemiah, introducing; th® subject by a most interesting historical sketch of the times. He proceeded to mention the qualities which made; up Neh-miah’s character and then shdwed the sources from which he drew ttyem. Finally he dwelt with eloquence on pho splendour of moral courage and appealed to the candidates to do all in tiheir power to develop that Christian quality. His words should long remain in th® memory of those who heard them. Th® Bishop will hold, another confirmation this evening when a number qi girls with a small number of boy candidates will be presented from the parishes of St. Mary, Holy Trinity and Waitara.
