STAR CLUB’S ANNUAL BALL

HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. An indication of the success of the Star Football Cluub’s ball in the Agricultural Hall last night was the fact that over 850 people - were present. Apart from mere numbers, and the hall was crowded, the function went with a swing from the time Boulton’s orchestra set up a lively overture and the patron opened proceedings by kicking a football until the lights .were dimmed and the couples gone. The club colours, black and gold, relieved by masses of foliage, were the foundations of the intricate decorations carried out.by Messrs. C. Clarke, J. Eva and L. Hartley and a men’s committee presided over by Mr. McKay. Mr. S, Bridger was the secretary. In the supper room tho table decoration was performed by Mcsdames F. Loesch and A. Ladner.

An avenue of palm fronds led the way to tho main hall. Beyond the pathway, the sawdust floor was transferred into a wide plantation of bushy shrubs., A rigid ehiaroseliuro effect, , was. given , to the dancing hall, the ceiling of which was hidden by a trellis of. yellow and black streamers. . There; was a foursquare arrangement of looped?.streamers inlaid on the flat ceiling decorations in three places. The usual dome formation was conspicuously absent and added to the severe modernity of tlie .decoration. Around the walls were fine-fingered palm fronds in keeping with the general scheme. Two great yellow stars wero placed at the end of the hall. The supper room, hang with streamers and flags and lined with punga fronds and wattle, had accommodation for 400 persons at the long tables, which looked very enticing with their vases of spring flowers. Presentations of clocks to- the benedicts were made by the president,, Mr. A. L. Humphries, to Messrs. H. Wolfe, F. A. Wolfe, E. A. Pepperell and E. f R. Hoskin. There was also a presentation to Sergeant-Major King for his services as coach. Mesdames Bullot (chairwoman), McKay, Ladner, Loesch, Bridger, Hartley, Lile,' Sutton,'Clarke, Birch, McKenzie, Shaw, Mylroi, Richaros, Wolfe, Cole, W. Bridger, Martin, Seldon and Rockstrofv comprised the committee of ladies. Tho masters of ceremonies were Messrs. K. Harvey, H. Billing, T. Godfrey, N. Lealand, J. Payne, T. Shaw and H. Wolfe.
