ITALIAN QUAKE DISASTER
CHURCHES SUFFER HEAVILY. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright, Bee. 10.30 p.m. London, Aug. 12. Monsignor Chiapetta presented the Pope with a detailed report of the mission in the earthquake zone in which he states that all the churches in the area have been entirely destroyed or ruined and sacred vestments buried, as a result of which it is impossible to hold religious services in roost‘ of the villages, says the Rome correspondent of the Times. The clergy had lost all their personal belongings and the situation was critical. Monsignor Chiapetta refers to the Catholic resignation of the victims. It is believed the Pope himself is providing funds foi’ the rebuilding of houses for parish priests.
