PERMANENT SPINAL INJURY
YOUNG MAN GRANTED DAMAGES. By Telegraph.-Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the Supreme Court Joseph Edward Hopkirk, aged 18, and his father, John Brown Hopkirk, claimed £lOB3 damages from Solomon Tossman as the result of a collision last January between a motor-cycle and a motor-car. Joseph Hopkirk was thrown from the motorcycle, sustaining a fractured right leg, fractured spinal column, abrasions and wounds. As a. result, it was stated, he would suffer permanent partial incapacity. Defendant denied negligence and alleged that plaintiff was riding at an excessive speed and was on the wrong side of the road. The jury awarded plaintiffs £677.
