THEFT IN BOARDING HOUSES
FRUITLESS CHASE IN STREET. MONEY STOLEN FROM CLOTHES. By Teleffi-aph.—Press Association. • Auckland, Aug. 5. < ’ Two city boarding-houses were visited by thieves early in the morning. At a Symonds Street establishment the rooms of two pressmen and another boarder were visited, their clothing being rifled and £lO stolen. ■. .. At Grafton Road an overseas visitor was awakened at 5 a.m, to find an intruder going through the pockets of his clothes. He shouted for help and chased the thief on to the verandah, but the latter jumped off the landing to the pavement below and dashed off with several boarders in pursuit. He succeeded in making good his escape. No money was missing, but the visitor lost a wallet containing his passports and pension papers.
